Karthigai Deepam festival starts in Tamil Nadu

Karthigai Deepam, the festival of lights in Tamil Nadu, is celebrated on the full moon day in Karthigai masam of Tamil calendar. Karthigai Deepam 2010 date is 21 November, today. This festival is celebrated throughout the state of Tamil Nadu but Thiruvannamalai Karthigai Deepam attracts a large number of devotees. It is celebrated for ten days in Thiruvannamalai which ends on Karthigai Pournami day.

The flag hoisting is celebrated on Uttradam day and the festival lasts for 10 days ending with Bharani Deepam in five agantams in Arunachaleswarar’s sannithi.

At Pradosha time (evening) on Karthigai Deepam festival, the Pancha Murthis (five deities of Tiruvannamalai temple) will be brought to the Katchi Mandapam. The idol of Arunachaleswarar is brought to the place along with five lamps.
