Kalashtami Vrat April 2014

22 April 2014 is Kalashtami Vrat. Also known as Kala Ashtami, Kalashtami falls on Ashtami tithi of Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of every Hindu month.

Kalashtami is an auspicious day for the devotees of Lord Kalabhairava (a manifestation of Lord Shiva) who observe fasting on this day.

Kalashtami of 22 April 2014 falls in Chaitra Month as per Amavasyant calendars and in Vaishakh Month as per Purnimant (North Indian Hindi) calendars. It falls in Chithirai Masam of Tamil calendar, Meda Masam in Malayalam calendar and Boishakh Month in Bengali Panjika.

Kalashtami Vrat is mostly observed in Maharashtra, Deccan Karnataka, Marathi influenced areas of Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and some parts of North India.

Generally, Kalashtami is observed on the day when Ashtami prevails in the night.
