Kailash Manasarovar Yatra 2012 dates, Kailash Mansarovar Pilgrimage 2012

The Kailash Manasarovar Yatra is one of the popular and holiest pilgrimages in Hinduism. Kailash is considered as the abode of Lord Shiva. Kailash Manasarovar Yatra 2012 is organized by the Ministry of External Affairs from May 29, 2012 to September 26, 2012 in 16 batches. Kailash yatra is open to all Indian citizens above 18 years of age who wish to proceed to Kailash Manasarovar for religious purposes. Duration of the yatra will be 26 days. In addition, Yatris will need to spend 4 days in New Delhi to obtain visas, undergo a comprehensive medical examination and complete financial formalities.

For Kailash Manasarovar Yatra 2012, a new route is being proposed by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. Due to this new route, pilgrims will not only be able to visit ancient temples of Someswar and Baijnath Kosi Garur. But, they will, however, be able to perform puja at Jageswar Dham which was not part of earlier yatras.

Kailash Manasarovar Yatra is known for its religious value, cultural significance, physical beauty and thrilling nature. It is undertaken by hundreds of people every year. Holding significance for the Hindus as the abode of Lord Shiva, it holds religious importance also for the Jains and the Buddhists.

The Yatra is open to eligible Indian citizens, aged at least 18 years and below 70 years as on 1 January 2012, who wish to proceed to Kailash-Manasarovar for religious purposes.

The Yatra is organized by the Ministry of External Affairs every year.  In 2012, the Yatra is planned to be arranged from 29 May to 26 September in 16 batches. The duration of the Yatra proper for each batch will be 27 days.

Given the extremely arduous nature of the Yatra, only those who are physically fit and healthy should apply to undertake the Yatra, purely at their own volition, cost, risk and consequences.

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection of Yatris will be done by the Ministry of External Affairs through a fair computer-generated random gender-balanced selection process.

The selected applicants will qualify for the Yatra after passing two sets of specific medical examinations at the Delhi Heart & Lung Institute and the ITBP Base Hospital, New Delhi, before the Yatra proper; and the third set of medical test at Gunji after 5 days into the Yatra proper.
