Inavolu Mallikarjuna swamy temple in Warangal District of Telangana is one of the most ancient Lord Shiva temple in South India.
The temple dates back to 11th century. Built with 108 rock pillars, Sri Mallikarjuna temple also has a giant Nruthya Mandapam on eastern side. The significance of the temple is – the presiding deity, the Shivalingam of the temple, is referred to as ‘Ardhapranavattam’ (Shivalinga with half doom). The temple has 4 entrance gates with rich architectural carvings symbolising the culture and style of Kakatiya dynasty.
Inavolu Mallikaruja swamy temple is situated at a distance of few miles from Punnelu X Roads on Warangal – Khammam highway and at a distance of 18 Kms from from Pedda pendial on Warangal – Hyderabad Highway.
Makara Sankranti, Renuka Devi Yellamma Panduga, Maha Shivaratri, Ugadi, Tholi Ekadasi (Pedda Ekadashi), and Durga Navaratri are the major festivals celebrated in the temple. During Sankranthi, Shivarathri (Shiva Kalyanam), and Ugadi, Jathara is held.
