This is the first Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations for separate Telangana state, 29th state of India. The Telangana government is making all arrangements for smooth conduct of the first Ganesh festival in the newly- crated state and will encourage immersion of idols in local tanks instead of in the Hussainsagar.
Speaking to reporters after a review meeting at the Secretariat on Wednesday, home minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy said, “This is the first Ganesh festival in the Telangana state and we will ensure 24-hour power supply.”
He said the government wanted the organisers to immerse Ganesh idols in local tanks. If all the idols from various parts of the city were brought to Hussainsagar, people would face traffic problem, he said and warned that the government would take stern action against grabbers of local tanks.
The home minister said the government would encourage eco-friendly clay idols in a big way from next year and would provide special places for making clay idols.
