Hindu New Year 2022

Hindu New Year is celebrated on Chaitra Pratipada (first day in bright half of Chaitra month). In 2022, Hindu New Year date is April 2. It is Shubhakruth Nama Samvatsara Hindu Year (2022-2023).

In Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka this festival is celebrated as Ugadi. Marathi people celebrate it as Gudi Padwa. In Kashmir, it is popular as Navreh.

In North Indian states, Nav Varsh is celebrated. It is a big festival to all those who follow lunar Hindu calendar (Chandramana Panchangam either Purnimant or Amavasyant).

In Goa, Chandramana Ugadi is famously celebrated as Sanvar Padwa or Samvatsar Padvo.

Cheti Chand or Sindhi New Year is celebrated on Chaitra Shukla Dwitiya. In 2022, it is on April 2.

Sauramana Ugadi is the Hindu New Year observed as per the Sauramana Panchangam (Solar calendar). It is also referred to as Meshadi, Vaishakhadi, Mesha Sankranti, etc..

As Tamil people follow Sauramana Panchanga, Varusha Pirappu, Puthandu, Chithirai Vishu, is celebrated as the Tamil New Year celebrated all around the world. In 2022, Varusha Pirappu or Puthandu date is April 14. It is celebrated on Mesha Sankranti day.

Odiya New Year is celebrated as Mahavishuba Sankranti, Meru Sankranti, Pana Sankranti, etc.. In 2022, Mahavishuba Sankranti date is April 14.

15 April 2022 is Vishu in Kerala. Vishu is the Malayalam Zodiac New Year day. It is the first day of Medam Month in Malayalam calendar (Kolla Varsham). It is celebrated on the next day of Mesha Sankranti.

Pohela Boishakh which marks the beginning of Bengali New Year, falls on the next day of Mesha Sankranti (the day of Sun’s transition into Mesha Rashi – Aries sign). It falls on the first day of Boishakh Month as per Bengali Panjika. In 2022, Pohela Boishakh date is April 15.

Rongali Bihu in Assam

Rongali Bihu or Bohag Bihu is the Assamese New Year celebrated in mid April. Bohag Bihu 2021 or Rongali Bihu 2022 date is April 15.
