Using herbal colours or natural colours is the theme for Holi 2014. Since global warming, environmental safety, and harmful gasses emission have been hurting the globe in a big scale, its very essential to shift from using chemical colours to herbal and eco-friendly colours for Holi.

A group of 50 inmates at Tihar’s Jail no 5 are using herbal raw materials like flowers to make dry colours (gulal) which will be sold at specified centres in the capital, New Delhi.

The team of around 50 Tihar convicts, as part of the prison’s joint project with a non-governmental organisation, Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan (DJSS), have been produced seven types of herbal colours for this Holi festival. They have made almost 14,000 kilogram of natural colours this year.

The Holi products are available in seven colours: red, magenta, pink, orange, green, sky blue & yellow. The colours are sold in the packets of 120 gram at Rs 65 each. DJSS has also got orders to export the Holi colours to US, UK and some other countries.
