Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Hanuman. It is falls on Chaitra Purnima, 15th day in Shukla Paksha of Chaitra Month, as per Hindu calendar. In 2016, Hanuman Jayanti date is April 22.

Hanuman is also referred as ‘Sri Ramadoota’ or ‘Sri Ramabantu’ in many scriptures as he is the ardent devotee of Lord Sri Ramachandra.

In Maharashtra, Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated on Chaitra Purnima. Some parts of Telangana (Hyderabad), Seemandhra (Andhra Pradesh) and Karnataka, also celebrate Hanuman Jayanti on Chaitra Purnima.

As per some Gujarati Panchang and Rajasthani calendars, Hanuman Jayanti falls on fourteenth day (chaturdashi) in the dark fortnight of Ashwin Month.

In the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated in Margazhi Month which comes normally between Dec 15 and Jan 14. According to the Tamil religious literary sources, Hanuman or Anjaneya was born on Moola Nakshatra, on Amavasai in Margazhi month of Tamil calendar.

In Odisha, Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated on the first day of Vaisakha month as per Oriya calendar which comes normally on April 14 or 15. It is also celebrated as Maha Vishuva Sankranti (Odiya New Year).

In Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated on Vaishaka Krishna Dashami (10th day of Krishna/Bahula Paksha in Vaishaka Masam).
