Today, 6 April 2012 is Hanuman Jayanthi in many places of North India and Maharashtra. It falls on Chaitra Purnima, Full Moon day in Chaitra Month in Hindu calendar. In Karnataka and some places of Andhra Pradesh, Hanuman Jayanti is observed on the tenth day in Vaishakha Masam.
Aaku Puja (worshipping with betel leaves) to Lord Hanuman, Sindhura thailabhishekam (puja with sindhur and oil), and offering vadapappu, payasam, and fruits are more auspicious as part of Hanuman Puja on Hanuman Jayanthi festival. Devotees also observe fasting on this day.
In many places like Hyderabad, a massive Hanuman Jayanti Shobha Yatra (a procession marking the greatness of mighty Hanuman) is taken out. More than 1 lakh devotees would participate in this event.
