Girgaon Ganapati Mandal in South Mumbai breaks 83 year old tradition of Ganesh idol immersion

Girgaon Ganapati Mandal, situated in South Mumbai, is one of the popular Ganesh mandals in Mumbai. This Ganapati Mandal will be breaking an 83-year old tradition of Ganesh immersion and the idol will be recycled from this year. The KDGB Nivas Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal of Wadi in Girgaum bylane has decided to go green by staying away from Plaster of Paris (PoP) Ganesh idols.

The mandal prepared an eight foot Ganpati idol with fibre which is painted with organic colours. During visarjan day, the Ganpati idol will be taken out in procession to beach with the fanfare but will return back by getting some showers on just to symbolize visarjan. The fibre Ganpati idol will be reinstalled in permanent pandal in Wadi.

The initiative taken by Girgaum Ganapati Mandal has to be appreciated. Hindupad suggests the Ganesh mandal organizers to follow Girgaum mandal and celebrate eco friendly Ganesh utsav.
