Girgaon Keshavji Naik Chawl Ganesh Mandal in Mumbai is the oldest Ganpati pandal in Maharashtra & as well as in India as the first Public or Sarvajanik Ganesh festival was celebrated here. Initiated in the year of 1893, Keshavji Naik Chawl Ganesh Mandal has also witnessed a multitude of social, economical and political changes in residents of KNC and was celebrated the centenary of this festival in the year 1992.
This mandal is also known as Shree Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Sanstha’s 1st Ganesh Festival.
The mandal workers feel that the ganpati festival should not be commercialised and not hyped with unnecessary glamour and noise polluting measures.
The mandal makes eco-friendly shadu idols and follow peaceful measures during Visarjan. Blood donation camps are organised by the mandal and it also works for a institute for handicapped children called, ‘pratham’.
