Ele Ashtami (Jyeshta Devi Pooja)

Ele Ashtami is an auspicious vrat dedicated to Jyeshta Lakshmi Devi (Jyeshta Devi – Alakshmi). In 2016, Ele Ashtami Vrat begins on September 8 and ends on September 10.

Ele Ashtami is widely celebrated in North Karnataka. It falls on Shukla Paksha Ashtami in Bhadrapada Month as per Kannada calendar.

The ritual is very much similar to Swarna Gowri Vrata, but it is performed by those who has the tradition of performing it since several generations.

The three-day Jyeshta Devi Pooja begins on Sashti and ends on Ashtami.

September 8, 2016 – Jyeshta Gauri Avahana

September 9, 2016 – Jyeshta Gauri Pooja

September 10, 2016 – Jyeshta Gauri Visarjana

During this Vrata, women bring Jyeshta Gauri Mata to their homes in pairs such as Jyeshta – Kanishta or Sakhi – Parvati, etc,.
