Chaitra Purnima, the Full Moon day in Chaitra month, is also included in the list of Shahi Snan or Royal Bath dates in Haridwar Kumbh Mela 2010. In 2010, Chaitra Purnima Shahi Snan is performed on March 30. In some places, Chaitra Purnima is also celebrated as Hanuman Jayanti.
PTI News reports:
Sadhus belonging to various ”Akharas” will get an additional ”shahi snan” this time as the mela administration has included Chaitra Purnima falling on March 30 in the list, taking the total number of such baths during the ongoing Mahakumbh in Haridwar to 4. Mela administration put its seal of approval on the proposal of Akhil Bhartiya Akhara Parishad (ABAP) to include the day during a meeting between the two at Haridwar last evening, officials said.
After the inclusion of Chaitra Purnima, there would be 4 ”shahi snans” out of the total 11 major ”snans” during the three-month-long Mahakumbh, that began on Makar Sankranti on January 14. When contacted, president of ABAP Mahant Gyan Das said sadhus belonging to all the 13 Akharas would take holy dip in river Ganga on Mar 30.
