Chaitra Month 2010 – Chaitra Mas 2010 dates in North Indian Hindu Calendar

Chaitra month or Chaitra mahina or Chait mas (March-April) is the first month in Hindu calendar or Hindu Panchang followed in North Indian states. In 2010, Chaitra month will begin on March 1st and end on March 30, 2010, in North Indian calendar followed in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu Kashmir, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Uttaranchal.

The first day in Shukla Paksha or bright half of Chaitra month is observed as Nav Varsh or Hindu New Year in North India. In Kashmir, this day is celebrated as Navreh, Kashmiri Hindu New Year day. This festival marks the beginning of Chait Navratri or Chaitra Navratri.

Apart from Nav Varsh and Navratri, Gangaur or Gauri Tritiya, Chaiti Chath, Sheetalashtami, Ashokashtami, and Sri Ram Navami are the major festivals during Chait mahina as per North Indian calendar.

It is to note that in Marathi, Kannada, Gujarati, and Telugu calendars – Chaitra month 2010 starts on March 16th and ends on April 14, 2010. The first day of Chaitra maas marks the Marathi New Year (Gudi Padwa), Kannada and Telugu New Year (Ugadi), and Sindhi New Year (Cheti Chand).
