Brusha Sankranti

Brusha Sankranti marks the transition of sun (Surya sankraman) to Vrushabha Rasi (Taurus zodiac) from Mesha Rasi (Aries zodiac). In 2018, Brusha sankranti date is May 15. Brusha Sankranti has great significance in Odisha.

Sankraman Snan are performed by devotees in rivers and Sea to offer Arghya to their dead ancestors and Surya Bhagvan. This auspicious day is also known as Vrishabha Sankranti or Vrishabha Sankraman.

In Puri, devotees throng in large numbers and perform Brusha sankranti snan in Puri snan ghats. They visit Puri Jagannath temple and offer special pujas on this festival.

Brusha Sankranti marks the beginning of Vrishabha month in solar calendars followed in Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. (The names vary from place to place).
