Basoda Sheetlashtami Festival: Shitlashtami at Basoda Seetla Mata Shakti Dham, Madhya Pradesh

Sheetlashtami or Shitlashtami, also known as Basoda is a festival dedicated to Goddess Sheetla Mata. It is observed on eighth day of dark fortnight (Krishna Paksha) in Chaitra month as per North Indian Hindi calendar. In 2014, Basoda Sheetlashtami date is March 24.

Goddess Sheetla Mata is well-known for her great ability of destroying diseases and illnesses.

During the festival of Sheetlashtami a great colourful fair is held at Sheetla Mata Shakti Dham at Basoda in Vidisha district of Madhya Pradesh which attracts a large number of devotees from neighboring states like Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.
