Ashada Amavasya, the No Moon day in Ashada mahina or Ashad month, is known as auspicious for Pitru Tharpan and Pinda Pradhan. In 2017, Ashada Amavasya date is June 24 as per North Indian Hindi calendars. As per Marathi, Kannada, Gujarati and Telugu calendars, Ashad Amavasya 2017 date is July 23.

Deep Puja or Deepa Pooja is the main ritual of Ashad Amavasya in some North Indian states.
