Ratha Saptami or Surya Jayanthi is also known as Arogya Saptami. In 2017, Arogya Saptami puja date is February 3. Lord Surya Narayan, the God of Health, who is also referred to as Aditya, Bhanu, Divakar, Ravi, Prabhakar, Mitra, etc. is worshipped during Arogya Saptami puja.
Arogya Saptami or Arogya Vratam is considered as highly meritorious for those who are suffering from various ailments, diseases and disorders. This puja or vrata is observed on seventh day of any month but Ratha Saptami or Surya Jayanti is most preferable day to perform the vrata.
Arogya Saptami or Ratha Saptami is also known as Vidhan Saptami in some parts of North India.
Devotees observe fast or upvaas during whole day and break their fast on the next day i.e. Ashtami. Punya Nadi Snan or Sagar Snan and Argya or tharpan to Lord Surya are some other rituals during Arogya Saptami vratam. Those who observe the vrata become free from diseases and enjoy a healthy life.
