Today, 21 February 2012 is Amavasya. It is observed as Bhaumvati Amavasya as it falls on Tuesday (Bhaumvar). It is Falgun Amavasya in North Indian Hindi calendars and Magh Amavasya in Telugu, Kannada, Marathi & Gujarati calendars. Amavas Time: Amavasai begins at 3.52 AM on 21 February and ends at 4.05 AM on 22 February.

Amavasya Mela is a major fair celebrated at Chitrakoot. Amavasya is a meritorious occasion to perform Tharpan rituals to Pitru devatas (dead ancestors).

Amavasya February 2012 is Maasi Amavasai in Tamil Calendar and Kumbha Amavasya in Malayalam calendar.

This Amavasya marks the end of Magha Month in Amavasyant Hindu calendars. The following day brings the beginning of Falguna Month in these Panchangams.
