Akshaya Tritiya Celebrations in Bengal & Jat Farming Community

Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akha Trij or Akha Teej, is one of the big festivals celebrated in most parts of India including Bengal, Orissa, and other places of the country. Jat farming communities or farmers of Jat sect celebrate Akshay Trutiya with utmost fervor. Akha Trij 2017 date is April 28|29.

Akshay Tritiya Celebrations in North and South India:

Usually on the day of Akshaya Tritiya, observance of Lord Vasudeva Puja is considered as the most auspicious ritual. A holy dip in the sacred river Ganga makes the new year much graceful for the devotees.

Vedas describe that to gain knowledge or to do charity work, Akshay Tritiya is most fruitful day. According to Puranas, Akshaya Tritiya is most fortunate day to enter into new business or to start new venture.

On the day of Akshay Tritiya, many people purchase gold or any other property. They consider buying of Gold or other property would be a lucky charm for them.

Observance of Akshay Tritya in Bengal:

During Akshay Tritiya, the people of Bengal celebrate ‘Halkhata. ‘Halkhata is a celebration of starting the new audit book and to start new accounts. They worship Lord Ganesha and perform Goddess Lakshmi Devi Puja.

Observance of Akshay Trutiya in Jat Community:

Jat farming community considers Akshay Trutiya as the most auspicious day. Jat community celebrated the day as ‘Akha Teej. As a ritual, a man from a Jat farming family starts to field with a towel on his shoulders. If he encounters with animals and birds on the way to field, it is considered as omen and it indicates rainfall and good crop.
