Akshaya Patra Foundation – World’s largest NGO to run Midday Meal Program for school children

Akshaya Patra Foundation is the world’s largest NGO to run Midday Meal Program for underprivileged school children in India. Started in 2000 by feeding 1500 children from a temporary kitchen in Bangalore, Akshaya Patra Non-Governmental Organization is currently distributing healthy meals daily to more than a million school children in over 5,700 governement schools in seven states in India. The foundation is now maintaining 17 kitchens throughout the country.

Akshaya Patra provides midday meals to school children in the following locations – Bangalore, Hubli, Mangalore, Bellary, Mysore, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Jaipur, Bhilai, Baran, Nathdwara, Vrindavan, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Navagarah, Vadodara, and Puri.

Akshaya Patra, headquartered in Bangalore, honored with many international and Indian national awards. Akshaya Patra Foundation has been recognized by the Limca Book of World Records and was the winner of the 2008 CNBC-TV India Business Leader of the Year Award.
