Today, 11 November 2013 is Akshaya Navami (Amla Navami, Kushmand Navami, Awla Navami, Kushmand Ninth). It is observed on ninth day in Shukla Paksha in Kartik Month, mainly in North India. Akshaya Navami is associated with Lord Surya and Goddess Durga.

Amla Navami is named after Amla fruit. This festival symbolizes the attachment between human beings and nature’s variety of healthy products.

In Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, ‘Parbhat Pheri’, a procession dedicated to Lord Krishna and Sun God is celebrated in the mornings.

Kushmand Navami is also associated with the story of Kushmandasur Vadha, the demolition of demon Kushmanda. It also related to Kushmand fruit (Pumpkin).
