Aippasi Pournami Annabhishekam

Aippasi Pournami is an auspicious day for Shiva Puja. It is the Full Moon day in Aippasi Masam of Tamil calendar. In 2016, Aippasi Pournami date is November 14.

Annabhishekam is the main ritual performed on Aippasi Pournami in Shiva Temples throughout Tamil Nadu.

Chidambaram Natarajar Temple, Tanjavur Bruhadeeshwarar Temple, Madurai Meenakshi Sundreswarar Temple, Thiruvannamalai Arunachaleshwarar Temple, Senthilai Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, Chennai Selaiyur Om Sri Skandasramam near Tambaram East, and Sri Maha Tripurasundari Sametha Sri Chandramouleeswara Swami Temple at Srimatham in Kanchipuram are the best places to visit on Aippasi Pournami where Annabhishekam is performed with utmost fervor and gaiety.

The Shivalingam is covered with cooked rice and also decorated with vegetables and fruits around. This festival marks the thanksgiving ceremony to Lord Shiva for providing us with food and nutrition.

Aippasi Pournami coincides with Ashwin Purnima (Ashwayuja Pournami) in North Indian Hindi calendars, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati and Kannada calendars. It coincides with Thulam Masam Veluthuvavu in Malayalam calendar.

The next Pournami in Tamil calendar is Karthigai Pournami which is popular as the day of Karthigai Deepam.
