Ahoi Ashtami is a vrat dedicated to Ahoi Mata, observed on Ashtami in Krishna Paksha of Kartik Month as per North Indian Hindi calendars. In 2016, Ahoi Ashtami date is October 22.
Ahoi Ashtami Vrat is observed by married women (mainly mothers) for health and wellness of their children. It is very similar to Karva Chauth which is observed on four days prior to it.
Ahoi Mata is considered as the Goddess who protects children. Women observe fast and offer prayers to Ahoi Mata on this day.
Special recipes are prepared and offered to the Goddess. In the evening after seeing the stars in the sky, women break their fast.
