8 September 2011, Parivartini Ekadasi, Vaman Jayanti

Today, 8 September 2011 is Parivartini Ekadasi & Vaman Jayanti. It falls in Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapad month as per all lunar Hindi calendars. It is believed on this day Lord Vishnu turns aside during his Yoganidra (cosmic sleep) in Chaturmas. This is the second month in Chaturmas vrat. Parvartini Ekadasi is also known as Jaljini Ekadasi, Jal Zilani Ekadasi, or Parsva Ekadasi.

In some places, it is also celebrated as Vaman Jayanti. Lord Vamana was first appeared on this day and pushed down King Mavali (Mahabhali) into the Pathaloka.

In Madhya Pradesh, Dogyaaras festival is celebrated on this day.
