5 August 2011, Shukravar Lakshmi Puja in Shravan Month begins

Today, 5 August 2011, Shukravar Lakshmi Puja in Shravan month begins in all Hindu calendars. Shravan Shukravara Lakshmi Puja is most auspicious vrata. On the first Friday of Shravan month, Mahalakshmi Sthapana Puja (Sampada Lakshmi Vratham) is observed by invoking Kalash (Kalash Sthapana) and the puja is performed on all Fridays in the month. In 2011, the other three Fridays in this month are: August 12, 19 & August 26. The second Friday is observed as Varalakshmi Vratam.

In Maharashtra, Jara Jivantika Vrat is observed on Fridays in Shravan month. On the last Friday, Lakshmi Puja udwasan is performed for the year by moving Kalash.

On 5 August 2011, Shriyal Sashti, Shravan Surya Sashti, Supodan Varna Sashti Shiva Puja and Goswami Tulsidas Jayanti are also observed as per various Hindu calendars.
