Kartik Snan Sankalpa Mantra – Prayer or Stotra to chant during Karthika Snanam

Kartik Snan is the main ritual performed in the holy month of Kartik. All sarovars and river banks of India are filled with devotees of Lord Shiva and Vishnu to do Kartika masa punya snanam. Here are a collection of prayers chanted during Karthik ritual bath.   

Kartik Snan Prarthana:

  • Nirvighnam kurumedeva Damodara namosthuthe – this is the mantra to chant during Achamana. Achamanam is sipping of the holy water while reciting the above mantra. It removes all the ill effects from the body.

Kartik Snan Sankalp – Karthika Snana Snakalpam:

  • Deshakaalau sankeerthya ganga vaalukabhi saptarshi mandala paryantham kruthavarashe poundaree kashwamedhadi samastha krathu phala vyapthartham,
  • Iha janmani janmaantharecha balya kaumara yavvana vaarthakeshu jagrath swapna sushupthya vasthashu jnanatho jnanathasthcha,
  • Kamatho kamathah swathah preranayaa sambhavithanam sarvesham paapaana mapanodanartham,
  • Dharmartha kama moksha chaturvidha purushartha sidhyartham,
  • Kshema sthairya vijaya ayurarogya aishwaryaadheenam uttharottharabhi vrudyartham shivakeshavaanugraha siddhyartham
  • Varshe varshe prayuktha Kartika maase ….. vasare(Name the day of the puja) yukthayaam…. Thithau (name the thithi of the day) Shri …… (Name the Gothra of the performer) Gothrabhi jathah ……. (Name of the performer) Nama dheyoham – Pavitra Kartika pratha snanam karishye //

After chanting the above sankalpa mantram, Kartika masa snanam or ritual bath in Kartik month is performed.

After the completion of Kartik Snan, the below given mantra is chanted:

  • Tularashim gathe surye, ganga thrailokya pavani
  • Sarvathra dravarupena saa sampurnaa bhaveththadaa

This procedure of Kartik Snan is called as Yaksha Tharpana. Sandhya vandanam and Deeparadhana are done after Yaksha Tharpan.
