Kala Bhairava Ashtami 2009 – Mahakal Bhairav Astami

Kala Bhairava Ashtami, also known as Mahakal Bhairav Astami, is an auspicious day dedicated to Lord Kalabhairav, fierce form of Lord Shiva. It is observed on Margashirsh Krishna Paksha Ashtami day as per traditional North Indian Hindu calendar. Kalashatami 2009 date is November 9th. As per the other calendars, it falls on Kartik Krishna Ashtami. Devotees of Lord Shiva observe fast on this day and worship the Lord with utmost fervor.

Kalashtami is observed in every month on the eighth day after Purnima. But the Margashirsh Krishna Ashtami is very auspicious as the day that marks Mahakaal Bhairav Jayanti. It is believed that on this day, Lord Kala Bhairav appeared on Earth. Mahakaal bhairav, the presiding deity of Varanasi and Ujjain, is incarnated to behead head-strong Brahma. The legend or the story of Kalbhairav and his divine avatar is mentioned in the Shiva Maha Purana.
