Maha Shashti or Sixth day of Navratri 2009 – Dedicated to Goddess Mahalakshmi

Mahasashti or the sixth day of Durga Navratri is dedicated to Goddess Mahalakshmi. In 2009, Goddess Durga is decorated and worshipped as Mahalakshmi on September 24th, Thursday, in South Indian temples, especially in Kanakadurga temple (Durga Malleshwara Swamy temple) located at Vijayawada.

Mahalakshmi is the Goddess of wealth and prosperity. She is the consort of Lord Sri Maha Vishnu. With her Abhaya and Varada mudras (blessing postures), Goddess Mahalakshmi blesses her devotees with prosperity and wealth.

Some other popular Lakshmi Puja days are – Sharad Purnima (Kojagari Lakshmi Puja), Diwali lakshmi Puja and Varalakshmi Pooja.
