Mahalakshmi Vrata 2009 – Maha Laxmi Puja 2009

Mahalakshmi Vrata or Mahalaxmi Puja is dedicated to Goddess Mahalakshmi. In 2009, the date or the period of Maha Lakshmi vrata – Vrat begins on August 27 and culminated on September 11. Mahalakshmi Vrat is mainly observed in North Indian states – Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Mahalaxmi puja is observed for 16 consecutive days. This vow dedicated to Goddess Laxmi, begins on Bhadrapad Shukla Ashtami and ends on Ashwin Krishna Ashtami as per traditional North Indian calendar.

Significance and Glory of Mahalaxmi Vrata

The glory, legend and the significance of Maha Laxmi vrata is mentioned in Bhavishya Purana as a conversation between Yudhishtira and Lord Krishna. When, Yudhishtira asked Lord Krishna to mention a vratha by observing which he can achieve back everything that he lost during the gambling games with Kauravas, Krishna told him about Mahalaxmi Vrath. Krishna said to Yudhistira that Maha Lakshmi vrata is the only vrata which can provide the performer with everything he/she needs – wealth, health, children, family and prosperity.
