Chaturmasya Vrata or Chatur Mas Vrat is the vratam observed for four holy months – Shravan, Bhadrapad, Ashwin and Kartik. Chatur Mas Vrata starts on Shayana Ekadasi or Deva Sayana Ekadashi, which falls in Ashada month and concludes on Dev Prabodhini Ekadashi or Utthana Ekadasi in the month of Kartik. In 2009, Chaturmasa Vratam starts on July 3, Friday. These Chatur Mas (four holy months) are highly auspicious according to Hinduism. People follow rules in four months which they usually follow in Shravan and Kartik months. Even though there are no strict rules or niyamas or codes to observe Chaturmas Vrata, devotees observe vrata with more attention and dedication.
