Importance and Sanctity of Pithapuram:

The kshetrams or the temples located here can directly indicate the significance and sanctity of Pithapuram. In Pithapuram Sri Puruhuthika Devi is consecrated with Lord Sri Kukkuteshwara Swamy, hence it is one of the 18 Shakti Peethams (Prominent temples of Mother Goddess, Shakti) and a popular Shiva Kshetram.

Sri Pada Gaya Kshetram – Sri Pada Vallabha Temple in Pithapuram:

Pithapuram is also important for Vishnu devotees as it is Sri Pada Gaya Kshetram. Puranas explain that in Pithapuram Lord Dattatreya, the SadGuru Deva of Sakala Loka (Teacher for whole universe), was incarnated as Sri Sri Pada Vallabha Swamy. Pithapuram is located in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.

Shakti Peetham in Pithapuram – Goddess Sri Puruhutika Devi Temple:

The temple of Goddess Sri Rajarajshwari Devi is one of the ancient temples of India. The Lord Goddess of Pitahpuram, Sri Puruhuthika Devi’s Pitham is lying here and because of that the name of the Goddess became “Puruhuthika Devi” and the town is called as “Pithapuram”.
